Law Firm IT Support and Compliance in Simcoe County
ACT360 provides IT support and compliance help for law firms in Barrie, Orillia and across Simcoe County. Firms get documented security, tested backups, on-site visits when needed and a named contact in downtown Barrie.
This page covers the local side of our IT support for Ontario law firms, built for practices that want a local team and a clear answer when compliance questions come up.
What Do Simcoe County Law Firms Need From IT Support?
Simcoe County law firms need the same protection for privileged files as a Bay Street firm, delivered by a team close enough to show up. That means monitored systems, tested backups, documented security controls, and one person who knows the practice.
Most firms in the county run lean. A 10 to 30 person practice in Barrie or Orillia rarely has an IT manager, so the managing partner ends up evaluating Microsoft licensing between client meetings. That works until a backup quietly fails, a former clerk still has access to the document system, or an insurer sends a cyber questionnaire nobody can answer with confidence.
Firms with offices in more than one town add another layer. A Barrie office and a satellite in Collingwood or Alliston means more equipment, more connections and more chances for something to be configured differently in each place.

Which Compliance Rules Shape Law Firm IT in Ontario?
Three sets of expectations shape it, the Law Society of Ontario’s Rules of Professional Conduct, federal privacy law under PIPEDA, and your insurer, which for most Ontario lawyers means LAWPRO.
- The LSO rules. Rule 3.3-1 requires lawyers to hold client information in strict confidence, and the commentary to Rule 3.1-2 expects lawyers to understand the risks of the technology they use.
- PIPEDA. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner says breaches that create a real risk of significant harm must be reported, and records of every breach kept for 24 months.
- LAWPRO. The 2027 program adds first-party cyber coverage with a $250,000 sublimit, and social engineering coverage that can rise from $250,000 to $1,000,000 when specified risk controls in Endorsement 14 are met.
That last point is new, and it changes the conversation. Your security controls can now affect how much coverage your firm actually has. Our guide to data security requirements every Ontario law firm should know maps each obligation to the controls that meet it, and our PIPEDA compliance guide covers the privacy baseline.

What Simcoe County Law Firms Ask Us
On-site support across Simcoe County is part of full-service Managed IT, and our team works out of downtown Barrie. Most issues are fixed remotely first, and when someone needs to be in your office, we schedule it around your filings and closings. Exact response times are set out in your service agreement, so you know what to expect before you sign.
We can document the security controls in place at your firm so you’re not guessing on the application. LAWPRO’s 2027 program ties higher social engineering limits to specified risk controls in Endorsement 14, so confirm the exact requirements with LAWPRO and we’ll show you where your firm stands against them.
Smaller firms often need it more, because there’s nobody else to catch a failed backup or an ex-employee’s open account. At ACT360’s published rates, 6 users runs roughly $480 to $900 a month for full service, before Microsoft licences.
Your software vendor supports the application, and we support everything around it. That includes Microsoft 365, workstations, user access, backups, security and integrations between systems. Tell us what you run during the assessment and we’ll be specific about our experience with it.
Our Managed IT agreements include a 90-day exit clause. If we aren’t delivering in the first 90 days, you can leave without a penalty.
Book the free IT Readiness Assessment. In about 30 minutes we review your systems, backups, security and contract dates, and the managing partner gets a written summary of what’s working, what isn’t and what it would take to fix it.
