Cloud Migration in Simcoe County for Businesses Whose Internet Finally Caught Up
ACT360 moves Simcoe County businesses off aging on-site servers and onto Microsoft 365 and Azure in phases, testing each system before the next one moves, so staff keep working through the change.
For years a lot of rural offices kept a server in the back room because the internet connection couldn’t carry anything else. That is changing township by township. ACT360 plans the move from our Barrie office, in the middle of the county, as part of our cloud migration services for Ontario businesses.
Why Is Cloud Migration Suddenly Realistic for Rural Simcoe County Businesses?
Because the connection problem is being fixed. Fibre is reaching parts of the county that were stuck on slow links, and once upload speeds are reliable, keeping files and line-of-business software on a server in the office stops being the only safe choice.
In December 2024, SWIFT announced fibre service for more than 12,590 homes and businesses in Simcoe County. Bell is building 394 km of fibre to reach 12,110 of those addresses and Cogeco is adding 19 km in Severn, backed by $47.7 million in combined public and private funding. The coverage list reads like a map of the county: Clearview, Adjala-Tosorontio, Essa, Springwater, Oro-Medonte, Tiny, Tay, Severn, Ramara, Midland, Penetanguishene and Innisfil.
Faster internet doesn’t migrate anything on its own, though. We regularly meet businesses where a 10-year-old server is still running accounting, scanned job files and a shared drive that three people rely on, with nobody quite sure what depends on what. Moving that without a plan is how a quiet Monday turns into a lost week.
ACT360 starts by listing what you actually run, then moves it to Microsoft 365 or Azure one piece at a time. One Ontario law firm we moved off a vendor-locked remote desktop setup described the speed difference as immediate. You can read the Azure migration case study for how that project was phased.
What’s Included in ACT360 Cloud Migration in Simcoe County
Sized for a 6-person office in Stayner as easily as a 60-person operation in Bradford.
Connection and Readiness Check
We confirm your current and planned internet can carry the move before anything is scheduled, including what changes when fibre arrives.
Application Inventory
Every server, share, database and licence is listed, so older line-of-business software doesn’t get discovered halfway through.
Phased Migration
Email, files and apps move in planned stages, each one tested with your staff before the next piece changes.
Training and Handoff
Your team learns where things live now and how to share them, so the first week back isn’t spent hunting for folders.
Keeping the Server vs. a DIY Move vs. an ACT360 Phased Migration
Most Simcoe County businesses we talk to are weighing one of these three options. Here’s how they usually compare.
How Much Does Cloud Migration Cost for a Simcoe County Business?
ACT360 quotes cloud migration in writing after the free IT Readiness Assessment, because the cost depends on data volume, user count and how many older applications need special handling. Microsoft licensing is billed separately from the migration work.
What moves the number most is usually not headcount. It’s the oddities: an accounting package that only runs on a local server, years of scanned drawings, or a shared mailbox nobody has cleaned up. These are the things we price.
- How much data needs to move, and how much can be archived instead
- Line-of-business software that needs Azure hosting or a vendor upgrade
- Number of users, devices and locations
- Whether your internet is fibre now, or the plan has to wait for it
If you want ongoing care after the move, Managed IT services in Simcoe County run $80 to $150 CAD per user per month for full service or $75 to $120 remote-only. Our cloud migration checklist for Ontario businesses covers what to sort out before you call anyone.
Our Approach
A.C.T.I.O.N.
For a Simcoe County migration, ACTION starts with the unglamorous part: confirming what your internet can actually carry and which programs still depend on the server in the back room.
Assess
We check your connection, your server and every application that touches it before a single file moves.
Comprehend
We dig into why things are set up the way they are and where the business is headed over the next 2 to 5 years.
Tailor
The recommendation is built from what we learned, with specific reasoning, cost, and what we’re deliberately not recommending yet.
Implement
Systems move one at a time and are validated with your staff, never all at once over a weekend.
Optimize
Quarterly reviews cover business outcomes, not ticket counts, and bring recommendations you didn’t have to ask for.
Nurture
We build relationships with your whole team, not just the owner, so every conversation starts with context.
How ACT360 Keeps a Simcoe County Cloud Migration Low-Risk
Financial
The migration is scoped and quoted in writing after the assessment. The 90-day exit clause belongs to Managed IT agreements, so it applies only if you add Managed IT after the move.
Switching
Nothing gets switched off until its replacement has been tested by the people who use it.
Political
The Assess step produces a plain-language report you can take to partners or the owner before anyone signs.
Operational
A named contact, Adam or Jeffrey, who knows which systems moved and when.
Ownership
Your Microsoft tenant, data and admin accounts are registered to your business, not to us.

The Team Values Behind ACT360’s Cloud Migrations in Simcoe County
A migration touches every person in the business, which is why the same values guide every project.
Be the Client
We listen to our clients and other team members to understand the full scope of the requirements and goals. We put ourselves in your shoes as we design and build the processes, tools, and infrastructure that will make your team more productive.
Give the 360° Solution
Our goal is to give our clients the full solution, so your technology becomes a profit enhancer rather than a profit hindrance. That’s why we offer more than a service desk or IT support. We bring a vCIO, IT strategy, and process improvement to the table.
Be a Problem Solver
We look beyond the problem to find its actual source so we can resolve it. When we work with your team and any vendors, we make sure every issue at hand is fully addressed.
Always Looking Forward
We strive to deal with our mistakes as a team, learn from them, fix them, and then not look back and repeat them. We also aim to provide proactive and forward-facing solutions by identifying issues as soon as they’re spotted.
Working to Live, Not Living to Work
We want our employees to feel supported to take care of family and personal needs. So we believe in creating a flexible, asynchronous, and remote-friendly workplace, as long as the work is getting done well and on time, then we are satisfied.
Treating Employees Like Experts
We believe our employees are experts who can be trusted to own their work and feel empowered to improve results. So we trust our experts to create solutions in efficient ways that work for them and to seek continual improvement, for the company and for others.
What Simcoe County Businesses Ask Before Moving to the Cloud
Not always. Email and Microsoft 365 work well on modest connections, so those can usually move now. Large file shares and hosted applications may be worth timing around your fibre install, and the assessment tells you which is which.
Usually, yes, but the method depends on the software. Some vendors offer a cloud version, some run well on an Azure virtual machine, and a few need to stay local a while longer. We confirm this with the vendor before quoting.
Microsoft 365 data for Canadian tenants is stored in Microsoft’s Canadian datacentres. Azure workloads are placed in the Canada Central or Canada East region, which matters if clients or insurers ask about data residency.
A small office moving email and files often finishes in a few weeks. Projects with older line-of-business software or several locations take longer, because each system is tested with staff before the next one moves.
Very little, if it’s phased properly. Most moves happen after hours, and staff get a short walkthrough of where their files now live. The goal is that Monday looks like a normal Monday.
It depends on data volume, users and older applications, so ACT360 quotes it in writing after the free assessment rather than guessing. Microsoft licensing is billed separately. If you add Managed IT afterward, that runs $80 to $150 CAD per user per month.
